he film is promised to be a slick action thriller; a cop story with no violence.

Director Rajasekhar says that in Tamil films if it is a cop story, it is a confrontation between the hero police officer and the villain politician and importance is given to action. "Sathyam" is no different except that there are no scenes of violence in it.

Vishal, born in a middle class family, becomes an assistant commissioner of police. Even after becoming a cop, he continues to do household chores including washing clothes and going to market to buy fruits and vegetables. His friends are the children living in his apartment building. Pairing with Vishal is Nayanthara, who plays a TV reporter. The film has Upendra, the Kannada superstar, playing a mercenary killer with an international network. Kota Srinivasa Rao dons the role of a politician.

Rajasekhar, a one-time associate of director Suresh Krissna, says Vishal is a no-nonsense angry young cop who has his own ideals and he fights to uphold them. What is special about the film is the absence of violence which is usually central to any action thriller.

"Sathyam" is Vishal's "stylish" film made for whole families, Rajasekhar stresses.

This is the first time Vishal shares screen space with Nayanathara. This is also the first time Vishal is featured in the role of a police officer.

A highlight of the film is a fight scene filmed in an ice factory set erected at an industrial unit in Ennore. The scene shows Vishal fighting the enemies standing on 200 ice bars. . It took ten days to complete the shooting of this scene.

According to the director, the film has some scintillating songs set to the music of Harris Jayraj.

The film is produced by Vishal's family production house, GK Films.

The team, which made "Chennai-600 028" a fine movie, is back in "Saroja". Except for the producer, the same team is working together again," says Venkat Prabhu who is in charge of the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction.

Amma Creations' T Shiva is producing "Saroja" in super 35 format. The story is totally different from that of "Chennai-600 028", according to Venkat Prabhu.

Four poor young men get into an extraordinary situation on an ordinary day and how they manage to come out of it is the story of "Saroja". One of the main characters, Siva, is a television actor and he marries Kajal Agarwal. The wedding reception was shot at a mansion on East Coast Road, Chennai, earlier this month. The reception was literally star-studded.

Prakashraj and Jayaram play important roles along with Siva, Vaibhav (son of director Kothandarami Reddy), Saran and Premji Ameran. Premji and Brahmanandam handle the comedy track. A highlight is a traffic jam scene filmed at a huge cost, using about 200 buses, Lorries and other vehicles.

A song sequence was picturised at MGM featuring 30 to 35 5 television artistes. Matilda, winner of the best singer in the Singapore Idol Show club, sings in this film. The song, 'Aaja Meri Soniye' was shot in Singapore St. James Power Station, Asia's biggest entertainment club. Leading Hindi playback singer Adnan Sami sings the song, 'Kodana Kodi Athil Kulippom Vilaiyadi.'

Yuvan Shankar Raja, who set the tunes for the songs, has taken 50 days for the background score. Five songs have been recorded, two of them are written by Gangai Ameran and three by Vaali. The film's title role is essayed by Vega Timotia, a newcomer.

The art director is Vithesh .He erected a gigantic set resembling a huge industrial complex on the Binny Mills premises where the action scenes were shot. According to producer T.Shiva, the work is nearly over. Almost 90 per cent of the shooting has been done at nights. It is wholly a technicians' film and Venkat Prabhu guarantees 2-1/2-hours of 'happy experience'.

The film is being made in Telugu also. Disco Shanthi's husband Srihari plays the role donned by Jayaram in Tamil.
